Our St. John's office in Newfoundland is seeking an AREA MANAGER : UNDERGROUND MINING for a project site located in NEWFOUNDLAND and LABRADOR.
Role of the Manager:
The VOISEY'S BAY UNDERGROUND MINE PROJECT is divided into two main Areas; Surface and Underground. Each Area which will each be managed by an Area Manager. The Area Managers will be accountable for delivery of all project objectives for their defined area, considering the full project lifecycle. This scope includes works definition, schedule, cost planning and performance management, throughout engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover to mining operations.
Area Managers are considered Project Managers of their respective areas reporting to the Project Director.
In collaboration with all members of the other functional groups, the Area Managers will actively participate in planning, monitoring, coordinating and directing the work of the Area. Lead the FEL3 gap ysis review and be instrumental in finalizing the project execution plan within the 60 days project set:up period. Throughout the role their responsibility includes mentoring and training more junior staff in the specific knowledge required for their areas of the project.
As the Area Manager's responsibility spans across all functions, they will interact with all team members on a daily basis to ensure planned activities are advancing as per the project requirements. They will, in consultation with functional leads, recommend alternate plans as issues arise to maintain the project objectives.
The Area Manager's base of operation will be the St. John's office of Hatch Ltd., but will be required to spend time at the Project office in St. John's and also visit to the site in Labrador, to ensure construction activities are advancing as required, being built correctly and prepared for commissioning and handover to operations.
:Strong personal commitment to and knowledge of Underground Mining Safety and Quality.
:Commitment to taking responsibility for the Underground job functions and to looking beyond job function and tasks to influence others in the specific behaviors required in the underground environment.
:Ability to work and communicate positively within a team based environment to ensure all deliverables are in conformance with engineering codes, standards, quality, schedule and budgetary restraints.
:Responsible for Safety, Health and Environment in the underground works areas.
:Champion health, safety, and a zero accident culture in the underground areas, while being proactive with contractors to promote a safe and hazard free work.
:Participate in all safety associated activities with the underground development and infrastructure construction, corrective action notices, audits, accident/incident investigations reporting, job ysis, safety meetings etc.
:Coordinates with project director, contractor leaders, design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling and other personnel in setting and maintaining priorities to ensure timely performance sufficient to keep the underground works on schedule and within budget.
:Manage the on:site contractors to ensure project field procedures within the underground works execution plan, including scheduling, planning, quality management, and performance management, have been established.
:Review the underground mine works daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports
