We are seeking a Production Manager to join our team You will oversee the activities of a team of skilled labor and HET technicians in the manufacture of heavy equipment components. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the Production Manager is responsible for the day to day production operations within their department as well as the weekly/monthly area performance including safety, output, labor productivity and quality.
The Production Manager oversees the tactical execution, by their area team across 2 shifts, for the strategy and department goals set out by the Director.
Coordinate all shifts, to ensure area is meeting production, quality and safety targets.
Ensure communication among the shifts is seamless and standardized including a set of weekly toolbox meetings for each shift, delivered by the Lead Hand; including safety topics, corporate messages, and procedural updates, etc.
Develop detailed change:management plans for managing and communicating process changes
Develop business cases for capital and operational expenditures for departmental projects needed to satisfy immediate and longer range deliverables
Execution of the weekly/monthly and quarterly Production quotas, including labor load leveling, overtime management and variance tracking and other cost controls measures.
Weekly production and quality variance ysis, and improvement recommendation
Review all warranty reports, and/or internal quality issues generated against their area and delegate investigations to Lead Hand as necessary. Initiate corrective actions where appropriate and participate/lead in development and implementation thereof to achieve continuously improving products
Provide direct cost oversight (e.g. labor utilization, overtime, consumables and material overages)
Develop technician career progression and training plans within the department
Ensure accurate communication of on:floor actuality is represented in electronic tracking systems (and/or other systems as required) to ensure accurate data tracking.
Ensure assignment and completion of scheduled daily and preventative maintenance responsibilities
Ensure safety policies and operating practices are implemented, identify deficiencies and take corrective action as necessary. Attend the management safety and leadership meetings to share best practices and brainstorm solutions
Implement 5S and contamination systems to establish and ensure departmental standards.
Provide direct progressive discipline support to their Shift Supervisors
Utilize LEAN and Continuous Improvement Principles and Tools to improve departmental deliverables.
Above average process ysis and change management skills : LEAN Green/Black Belt qualifications and evidence of success considered an asset.
Excellent communication and organizational skills : must effectively communicate and lead a large group of skilled technicians toward and through execution of corporate deliverables.
Outstanding proven leadership skills
Intermediate ability using Microsoft Office software
Logical and Systematic in thought and execution
Demonstrated process improvement experience
5+ years of operational management experience
Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) or Journeyman Automotive considered an asset.
University Degree in Business or Engineering is not required but considered an asset
Must have previous proven success as Business Unit manager.
